TMEIC GE presenting at the Hot Flat Rolling Fundamentals Training Seminar, February 21-25, 2010, Orlando, Florida
Mr. Wlodzimierz Filipczyk, Metals Industry Application Engineer, will be teaching a course covering “Gauge and Width Control” at the seminar.
The seminar provides a comprehensive overview of hot rolling. The course covers fundamentals, metallurgical and quality requirements, equipment, rolling theory, control, rolls, temperature control, measurement, safety and new technology. The Seminar is sponsored by AIST’s Hot Sheet Rolling Technology Committee.
Mr. Filipczyk’s course will provide an overview of thickness and width control strategies. The setup functionality for both thickness and width will be discussed, including adaptation techniques. Automatic gauge control and automatic width control functions will be presented in detail, as well as special control strategies for the semi-continuous rolling process. Additionally, actual performance levels for thickness and width tolerances will be shown.
Mr. Filipczyk has more than 35 years of experience in Metals Automation, and is the author of “Methodology and Results of Major Hot Strip Mill Modernization Projects,” Chapter 3 of the newly released book, “Flat-Rolled Steel Processes: Advanced Technologies”, edited by Mr. Vladimir B. Ginzburg.

Newly published book on Metals technologies

TMEIC GE would like to announce the recent publication by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC, in the field of metals technologies. The new book is titled “Flat-Rolled Steel Processes: Advanced Technologies”, edited by Mr. Vladimir B. Ginzburg.
Vladimir B. Ginzburg, considered one of the major innovators in the flat-rolling of steel, holds more than two dozen patents in the industry. In this volume, Ginzburg brings together other industry pioneers to define the latest developments in flat-rolled processes. This includes the revolutionary introduction of computer-based technology in both new and existing conventional rolling mills. Each section provides a brief topic summary and then goes on to describe the latest advances specific to that area. Main subjects include advanced hot rolling mills, advanced cold rolling mills, control systems, and the production of advanced flat-rolled steel products.
Two chapters of this book were authored by TMEIC/TMEIC GE engineers:
Mr. Wlodzimierz Filipczyk, (TMEIC GE) is the author of Chapter 3 – “Methodology and Results of Major Hot Strip Mill Modernization Projects”
Mr. Kazuhiro Ohara (TMEIC) is the author of Chapter 25 – “Technologies for the Prediction and Control of Microstructural changes and Mechanical Properties”
The book is available for purchase from on-line bookstores such as www.routledge.com or www.amazon.com.
