Oil and Gas

Every step of the way, from the wellhead to the finished fuel products, large adjustable speed drives are used to start motors and control flow.
  • In offshore platforms, driving gas compressors and oil pumps, moving fluids on shore.
  • In liquefied natural gas plants, driving large compressors and varying speed to control flow.
  • In refineries, driving large compressors and varying speed to control flow.
  • In gas and oil pipelines, driving large pumps and compressors, varying speed to control flow.
The compressors and pumps use drives to smoothly start the large motors and continuously adjust the speed to control flow. Controlling flow by adjusting speed avoids energy wasted in the throttling valves. When large flows are involved and the motor energy consumption is significant, varying the speed is the answer.

With large machines, the electrical power savings may amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. In addition, the motor is protected against starting in rush currents, and control valve maintenance expenses and resulting downtime are minimized.

The products or systems below are often used in oil and gas applications. For detailed information on any of these products or systems, please see the reference materials in the right column.
  • Dura-Bilt5i MV – Family of medium-voltage (2300-4160 V ac) drives.
  • TMdrive-30 – Family of medium-voltage (1250 V ac) converters and IGBT inverters.
  • TMdrive-70 – Family of medium-voltage (3300 V ac) converters and IEGT inverters.
  • TM GE LCI – Family of medium-voltage (2300-4160 V ac) drives.
  • Motors – We have a full line of motors in the power, speed, and enclosure options to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry.
