MV drive, 2.3/4.2 kV, up to 30 MVA

The TM GE LCI drive is ideal for any high- power synchronous motor application for which adjustable speed operation or soft starting is needed. Adjustable speed operation allows optimal efficiency (energy saving) and improved process accuracy.

Typical adjustable speed applications include:

  • Compressors for air or petrochemical processes
  • ID fans for coal-fired boilers
  • Grinding mills
  • Rod and bar mills
  • Marine propulsion

Soft starting reduces the mechanical stress on the motor and driven equipment as well as eliminating electrical starting surges on the AC power system. The rating of the starting system depends on the power required to drive the load at synchronous speed.

An output transformer permits the LCI drive to operate with any motor voltage. The TM GE LCI drive has a closed transition for its synchronizing/de-synchronizing function which, means no other synchronizing equipment is needed to smoothly start multiple large motors.

TM GE LCI (2.3 or 4.2 kV) Features and Benefits
Design Feature Customer Benefit
N+1 Power Bridge

Each phase-leg in the power bridge includes an extra (N+1) thyristor, providing device redundancy. Additionally, the thyristors are full voltage rated

Uninterrupted Operation through a Device Failure

The N+1 thyristor form of redundancy ensures full power output in the event of a device failure

Highest System Efficiency Synchronous motor and LCI combination give highest efficiency drive system available Most Cost-Effective High HP System Extensive cost savings in energy costs throughout the life of the equipment

Input Configuration Options Drive can be configured for 6, 12 or 24 pulse input Power System Friendly With these converter topology options, the harmonics reflected back into the power system can be minimized

Water-Cooled Technology The power bridge features a standard fully redundant water cooling system. Additionally, in the rare case that maintenance is required, the hoses do not need to be disconnected Compact Quiet Design Water Cooling technology has several advantages over other options:
  • Reduces ambient noise
  • Reduces footprint of drive, saving valuable floor space
  • Allows remote mounting of the transformer (outdoors)

Windows®-Based Configuration and Maintenance Tools The PC-based Control System Toolbox features:
  • Animated function block diagrams
  • Integrated trend window
  • Ethernet interface for remote connectivity
Faster Commissioning and Maintenance These world-class tools drive productivity in commissioning and maintenance activities
